Hyojong Kim
Renowned for his powerful and expressive voice, Hyojong Kim enjoys a thriving career as a permanent soloist at Theater Bremen since the 2012/13 season. His roles have spanned the diverse eras from Baroque to Contemporary, appearing as Pilade in Oreste by Händel, Ruggiero in Orlando furioso, Conte d'Almvavivain Il barbiere di Siviglia, Duca in Rigoletto, Fenton in Falstaff, Janek in The Makropulos Case, and the male leading character in Bohuslav Martinu's dream opera Juliette, ou la clé des songes, among others.
As a sought-after tenor, Hyojong Kim has performed at many prestigious theatres, including Lucerne National Theater in Switzerland, Linz Municipal Theater in Austria, Stockholm Royal Theater in Sweden, and Poznan National Theater in Poland. He has also been engaged at Staatstheater Oldenburg singing Ferrando in Così fan tutte and at Staatsoper Hannover as Alfredo Germont in Verdi’s La Traviata.
He also appeared at prominent concert halls such as Berliner Philharmonie in Germany. His concert repertoire includes Rossini's Oratorio Stabat Mater, Haydn's Oratorio The Seasons, Hendel's Messiah, Bach's St Matthew Passion, St John Passion, Christmas Oratorio, Mozart's Requiem, and Beethoven's Symphony No.9.
Hyojong Kim's journey to international acclaim began with his triumph in major competitions: he secured the 1st Prize at the Berlin International Musik Festival competition in Berlin (2008), Third Prize, Two special Prizes and the Audience Prize at the Tenor Viñas International Singing Contest in Barcelona (2008), 2nd Prize at the International Singing competition Vocal Genial in München (2009), and the 1st Prize at the International Singing competition Alexander Girardi in Coburg (2009). He further solidified his standing as a finalist in Operalia The World Competition (2012).
The recent highlight of his performance includes a recital at the Seoul Arts Center with the 'All Rossini' program, accompanied by Pianist Tommaso Lepore. Hyojong will also perform A Midsummer Night's Dream (Korea National Opera), J. S. Bach's St John Passion (Seoul Arts Center), Mozart's Requiem (Bucheon Arts Center), Hendel's Messiah (Bucehon Arts Center), and a Duo Recital with Soprano Sumi Hwang in Daegu.
Hyojong Kim studied at Yonsei University in South Korea and at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin. Further study followed at Musikhochschule Lübeck and International Opera Elite Studio at Theater Lübeck.
